Painting the Maine Waterfront
Curated by Carl Little

September 15 - October 20, 2009
Reception: Thursday, September 17, 5:30PM - 7:30PM

“Painting the Maine Waterfront,” featuring the work of seven contemporary artists, will be on exhibit at the Penobscot Marine Museum September 15 through October 20, 2009.

Works by George Bayliss, Gregory Dunham, Philip Frey, Katharina Keoughan, Nancy Morgan-Barnes, Linda Norton, and Amy Pollien have been brought together by guest curator Carl Little for a many-lensed view of Maine's working waterfront. Oils and watercolors in a variety of styles depict subjects ranging from skiffs on Monhegan to cargo ships at Sears Island. “The working waterfront has captivated artists for centuries,”says Little. “Here in Maine, perhaps because of its endangered status, the subject holds great appeal to painters.” Little is the author of Paintings of Maine and Winslow Homer and the Sea, and is a regular contributor to Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors and Working Waterfront.
